Business Service Ite – ITE College provided us with a clear and understandable program during the two weeks we were there and we were able to sit down and take part in many different classes, topics and assignments. We saw how local students enjoyed their classes and how they wanted to participate in various assignments and projects. All performances are carefully prepared and a lot of background research has been done. Although the subjects in the lesson were important, the atmosphere in the classrooms was always light and positive.
In schools, students wear school uniforms, including a white collared shirt, tie, and black dress pants or skirts. We are also asked to dress appropriately on the school campus, with sandals, sneakers and very revealing clothing prohibited.

It was great to have this experience and to be able to study in a successful and international country. It was also great to get fries from different parts of the world and learn about their culture. By 2020, ITE aims to offer extended internships lasting three to six months across all its courses.
So far, more than 370 companies have participated in the program, including Crowne Plaza, OCBC Bank, Certis CISCO Security, Diethelm Keller Aviation and The Soup Spoon, with 112 companies signing a partnership agreement with ITE today (18 November) at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. These agreements clearly define the roles and responsibilities of companies and ITE for internships. “This ensures that students receive meaningful work-based learning that enables them to apply what they learn in the workplace while deepening their skills,” ITE said.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung reiterated the importance of internships in realizing and developing students’ passion for the profession.
“With an expanded internship program, it would be more structured, outcomes would be measured, (and) mentors would be provided for each student,” he said.

Having hired 40 ITE interns since 2010, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport now has a structured internship program where students are assigned to fellows in housekeeping, front office and food and beverage services. Still, the hotel’s general manager, Sunshine Wong, noted that its program could be improved by training interns beyond the basics of work.
When the hotel starts expanding internships next year, Mr. Wong said it will explore putting interns in supervisory roles where they can make decisions and even sit in on board meetings. “It helps all of our interns know what the (job) expectations are. And hopefully with a system like this, it gives them a little more confidence in what they feel they want to do and gets them excited about being in this field,” he said.
