Branding Truck – To get the most out of your vehicle branding investment, you need to figure out how to best represent your company with quality graphics and how to avoid being a local distraction.

It goes without saying that many businesses are taking advantage of our vehicle and travel situations and using vehicles as advertisements. Just by driving to and from their place of business, a vehicle ad can get 30,000 to 70,000 vehicle impressions per day (3). Think about that! Even if you are not actively reading that home builders ad on the side of that truck on your way to work, you are exposed to it, and somewhere, in the back of your head, you have that information admitted subconsciously.

If these numbers don’t convince you of the power of vehicle wraps and graphics, consider these statistics. On average, a full vinyl wrap costs between $1,500 and $3,000 (4). According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA, ) vehicle wraps cost less than $44 per million impressions, compared to outdoor signs at $3.56 per thousand impressions, and newspaper ads at $19.70 per thousand impressions . Quite a significant cost difference, right?
Now, before you decide to slap a magnetic sticker on your truck or plaster your business van with a large wrap, take note of the dos and don’ts. If you don’t have a logo yet and are wondering what to introduce yourself, check out these construction company logos.
Think about what information is most important to you. This should be your contact information, your business name and the basics of what you do. This does not mean listing all the services you offer throughout your car, with clipart as examples.

When collaborating with your marketing company or your sign/printing company, be sure to choose a font that is easy to read long ago. 3. DO NOT use branding on the sides of the vehicle only. Remember that your car is a three-dimensional object.
Your vehicle can be seen from the front, sides and back. Make sure that critical information, such as your phone number and website, is easy to read from the sides and back of your vehicle.
On the other hand, be aware that not all vehicles are created equal. When designing your cover or smaller graphics, be sure to design for the vehicle you plan to advertise on. Certain aspects of vehicles, say bumpers, windows or certain rails, may not be able to be covered or in some states, may even be illegal. Be sure to discuss the possibilities with your package installer as well.
In some states, like Wisconsin, decals on any car windows are illegal. Luckily in Colorado, as long as your view is unobstructed, window coverings are A-OK. Cover with Fineline.

If you decide to use photography when branding your vehicle, please for our design purposes, get your images from a professional commercial photographer. Even if your company vehicle is a small luxury car, any imagery used to brand that vehicle needs to be scaled up to make it easy to see. A blurry or grainy image on a company vehicle, frankly, looks unprofessional. You want your vehicle logo to reflect the high quality work you do.
Final Shot has plenty of dynamic coverage, but the poor image quality/cutout makes the overall design a little worse for wear. If you’re going to invest so much into full coverage, invest in your photos too!

In the end it depends on the message you are trying to convey and who you want to send the message to. If you’re on commercial job sites, then you want to be a seasoned and unassuming professional, not some flamboyant upstart. On the other hand, if you work in residential neighborhoods you want to promote a friendly and playful mascot. An image that people immediately feel comfortable having in the neighborhood around their children.
As we mentioned before, being professional doesn’t automatically mean boring design. This is where your designer can come in and help you think outside the box; something that gets people interested but doesn’t run them off the road, so to speak.
Kinetic Industry is a water extraction, industrial strength cleaning, and resource sourcing service. AKA they do important, dirty work that requires (large vehicles, ) which are a great canvas to advertise on. Bright, fun and colorful branding on their car would not send the right message. Then again, simple vehicles would not be very exciting or take advantage of the situation.
Our goal was to create branding for Kinetic Industry vehicles that was both professional and out of the ordinary. While most industrial strength cleaning vehicles are plain (think white or hazard yellow,) we put a large version of their (logo graphic) on the tanks of their vehicles. This large graphic made Kinetic stand out from the crowd and was a great way to advertise to direct viewers who were getting the job done.
